Text Box: Decorating Your Gifts in a Jar

The ingredients that you have artfully layered into your jar are unique and attractive, but you might want to add extra decorations to make your gift more special.

Use your own creativity and the suggestions below to add color and pizzazz to your gifts in a jar:

Decorate the top of the jar with colorful print fabric. Simply cut a circle about 4 inches wider in diameter than the jar lid. It’s best to use pinking shears for cutting out the fabric because it will prevent the fabric from fraying.

There are two ways to attach the circle of fabric to the jar:

Put the seal (lid) on the jar, center the fabric circle over the lid and then screw on the ring.
--OR--
Put the lid and ring on the jar. Center the fabric circle over the top, attach a rubber band around the ring to hold the fabric in place, then tie ribbon, raffia or jute over the rubber band and tie the ends into a bow, as shown in the photograph on the cover.

If you want the fabric to puff slightly at the top of the jar, add a small amount of polyester fiberfill stuffing on top of the lid before tying on the fabric circle.

You can also attach silk flowers, miniature Christmas ornaments, cookie cutters, tiny wire whisks or small wooden spoons.
